California is the 4th Largest Economy, but 30th in Education

The quality of education in the state of California has always decreased significantly since the passing of Proposition 13. According to spending, performance, funding, safety, and class size, California is in 30th place when ranked against the other states. The East Coast takes the lead in education, with the top 5 schools being Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, Virginia, and New Hampshire. California’s students have been receiving a weak education because of the limitations that the state has imposed, such as a lack of resources in schools, school closures, not enough teachers or counselors, etc. The state of California doesn’t properly fund our education to give corporations and billionaires more money than the children of California.

With California being the fourth-largest economy in the world, we should have a better education system in place for the various backgrounds and identities that make California its unique self. Our education system has been ruined by the greed of the rich, taking resources and basic needs away from students as young as three years old. Having the most billionaires, corporations, and population, we need to hold corporations and billionaires accountable for the everlasting damage they are doing to our state and our education. Education is one of the few ways students of color coming from marginalized backgrounds can break cycles of poverty in their communities and families. How will our students succeed with limitations in education? Why are billionaires ruining and deconstructing the education system for students who need it the most? By reforming Proposition 13, the billions of dollars in property taxes that corporations have stolen will be returned. Funding local governments, and in turn, funding our public schools. Education is power; we need to work to keep education public, accessible, and affordable.
