Meet Our Interns

Our interns are always hard at work

Jennica, Nayeli, and Nikki’s own experiences with education fuel their passion to fully fund California public schools. They are an integral part of our campaign. They’re spending their spring conducting research on California’s education crisis, creating content for Evolve’s social media platforms, and directly engaging the public through one-on-one conversations, and so much more.

Jennica So, Campaign Intern: Jennica is in her last year at California State University, Chico and she is majoring in Sociology with a minor in Child Development. She was born and raised in Oakland, CA. Jennica went to public school from K-8th grade and has seen how different income schools can be. She is passionate about access and equity in schooling. Her time at Evolve will allow her to learn different strategies to help the public school system! During her free time, she enjoys trying new places to eat, hanging out with her friends, exploring the city, and watching a bunch of movies!

Nayeli Tirado, Campaign Intern: Nayeli Tirado is currently a third year student studying political science at UC Berkeley with intentions of going to Law school. Most of her family emigrated from Mexico, revealing little to no education. Only a few of her family members attended high school. Having witnessed first-hand the educational barrier imposed on her relatives, Nayeli recognized the importance of education from a young age. To this day, this sentiment remains as her guiding motivation for fighting on behalf of communities who do not have access to proper educational opportunities, which unfortunately accounts for many areas in California.

Nikki Crishen Evans, Campaign Intern: Nikki Crishen Evans recently graduated with her degree in Sociology from California State University, Sacramento. After many years of wanting to become a teacher, this dream was met with the unfortunate reality that students and educators were not properly supported, as the political sphere gravitated their interests towards capital/profit increases rather than the well-being of the citizens of the country. Having worked in many different school districts as a tutor or educator, there have been stark differences in these experiences and it is heartbreaking to see how funding is a determinant of academic success in most cases. Since this realization, she has found passion in reforming the educational system through policy change and funding allocation. She strongly believes that liberation can be found through education. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, watching movies, talking with friends, and hiking.
