Howard Jarvis Group Puts CA Communities on the Chopping Block
The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association and the corporate real estate industry have qualified the “Save Prop. 13 Act” for November’s ballot. With this measure, anti-tax groups are attempting to slash revenue for our schools and community services. This measure would critically limit real estate transfer taxes, a main source of revenue for California cities, including Berkeley, San Mateo, and Alameda. It would also make it virtually impossible for voters to create and pass local revenue measures by requiring a supermajority vote. A primary target of this measure is Measure ULA in Los Angeles, a tiered transfer tax that has raised over $1.2 BILLION for affordable housing and tenant assistance.
We cannot allow anti-tax conservatives to decimate funding for our schools and community services. California has the 4th largest economy in the entire world — the high value properties constantly being exchanged between wealthy hands must be taxed. We urge all Californians to stand up for our schools and communities by voting NO on the Save Prop. 13 Act!
A plan to cut a California tax is going to voters. Why LA’s ‘mansion tax’ is at the center of it
