Instead of cuts, this is what S.F. could do to balance its budget
By Rhys Hedges
Regarding “S.F. Mayor Daniel Lurie seeks $400 million in cuts as he confronts growing budget deficit” (San Francisco, SFChronicle.com, Dec. 12): Why is it that every time budget season rolls around, our elected officials only want to talk about cutting our essential services?
San Franciscans are already struggling to deal with previous cuts implemented by Mayor Daniel Lurie and the fallout from federal budget cuts from President Donald Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill.
It would be nice if Lurie would throw his political weight behind the revenue proposals that would make our city better, such as the Overpaid CEO Tax Act, and encourage our leaders in Sacramento to reform Proposition 13 to generate more tax revenue from commercial properties.
San Francisco has many wealthy people and corporations who have built their fortunes off of working San Franciscans; the least these billionaires and companies can do is give a fraction of that fortune back to the public services people need.
