Don’t stop development

Regarding “S.F. neighborhood lashes out at housing development planned for de facto ‘town square’ ” (San Francisco, SFChronicle.com, Aug. 6): I work at a nonprofit in Hayes Valley, and I am in full support of building affordable housing on the Proxy lot.

The concrete lot and outside gym are an eyesore, and most of the stores on the Proxy are overpriced. Homelessness and lack of affordable housing are major problems in San Francisco and building new homes is more important than an $8 matcha latte.

We keep complaining about the housing crisis, but when we want to create solutions, we derail the efforts to do so.
