Breed ignores facts

Regarding “S.F. Mayor Breed defends controversial move to arrest drug users: ‘You’ve never lived in it’ ” (San Francisco, SFChronicle.com, June 13): As a constituent of San Francisco Mayor London Breed and Supervisor Dean Preston, this outburst by the mayor over legitimate questioning is shocking.

When Breed says, “You can quote all these statistics all you want, but at the end of the day, you’ve never lived in it,” you can tell she has contempt for the left’s push for more rehabilitative services and the studies that prove they help. By saying this, Breed sounds exactly like the MAGA mob that doesn’t want to talk about facts.

We have historically used the criminal justice system as a way to fight the “war on drugs.” This has clearly not been a successful solution.

So, why do people, especially Breed’s high-profile donors — such as Republican William Oberndorf and tech investor Ron Conway — insist on harmful, unproven and inhumane tactics that result in more distress and trauma? And some of these donors don’t even live in San Francisco.

Breed needs to listen to real San Francisco residents and facts.
