Save our Schools
The Best Way to Fight Back
California is facing billions of dollars in federal budget cuts. We need to fight back and raise our own revenue by reforming Proposition 13. Prop. 13 passed in 1978 as a way to help homeowners. What most people don't know is that because of a corporate loophole in Prop. 13, large corporations have benefited the most. This loophole has increased the tax burden on individuals and decimated funding for our schools.
It's Time for California to Fully Fund Public Schools
We are running a statewide, grassroots campaign to close the corporate loophole in Prop. 13 while maintaining protections for all residential property owners. This common-sense reform will generate $9 billion a year in stable revenue for our schools and public services.
Over the last four decades, while commercial property owners have saved billions of dollars, California's schools have dropped to 44th in the nation in per-pupil funding. While Chevron alone pockets over $100 million a year from Prop. 13, our schools have the largest classroom sizes in the country. And now with Secretary DeVos attacking public education nationwide, this reform is more important than ever!
