It goes without saying that the Democratic Party is the most powerful political force in California. That’s why Evolve is campaigning to make reforming Prop 13 a top priority for the party, and an integral part of its platform.
We’ve been making great progress. Eight Democratic Central Committees across the state have passed our resolution calling for commercial property owners to pay their fair share. From rural Amador County in the north to metropolitan Orange County in the south, progressives are taking a stand to say “third-rail no more.” We applaud their support and look forward to even more in the coming weeks as five more counties take the resolution to a vote.
The enthusiasm from our democratic colleagues has been incredibly encouraging. But it isn’t enough. To truly make Prop 13 a political priority, we need support from the whole party.
April 12th marks the beginning of the California Democratic Party’s annual convention in Sacramento. Evolve’s coalition of organizers and activists will be there in force -- deepening bonds and pushing the Democrats to take decisive action.
The Democratic Party has the mandate. We need them to use it.
